Actor Headshots Behind the Scenes with Brodie
Behind the Scenes with Actor Headshot Photographer David Chang at The Distillery District Studio Toronto
Brodie is a graduate of The George Brown Theatre School, a drama school located at the Distillery District in Toronto. She tells me that a friend, also a grad of George Brown got his photos done by me and after seeing his headshots, they knew I would be their photographer. Brodie was immediately comfortable in front of the camera and made the shoot effortless. As you can see, we were fortunate with a bit of warm spring weather giving us a chance to go outside.
Started with a dramatic Look at the bridge. The Distillery District offers many options for outdoor natural light photography. Suggested a black top against the dark backdrop. Although the setting was more dramatic Skye selected a softer expression for her headshot portfolio.
The second Look was shot outside as well. With the strong sun backlighting Skye’s blonde hair I used a small softbox fill the shadow. I usually avoid shots with wind in the hair but Brodie’s shorter cut works here.
This is Brodie’s second select for their headshot portfolio. The slight smile in the eye really brings you into the photo.
Back in my studio for the 3rd Look. Working with her strong yellow top I used a medium tone canvas backdrop.
This headshot is all about the eyes, as is my focus for every shot I take. Yellow is usually tricky to shoot as it can dominate a headshot, but in this case I like the warmth of the top worked well with her blonde hair.
